Stronglifts 5x5

I’ve switched workout regimes.

I was doing Built With Science (Jeremy Ethier). I still think it’s a great program. It taught me a lot. It works.

It’s just it has a lot of moving parts.

So when I dropped out of the habit for a couple of months, the thought of getting back into it was pretty daunting.

A couple of people had recommended Stronglifts 5x5. And what stood out to me was how simple it is. There’s even less to think about than in Built With Science, which already abstracts a ton of the thinking away for you.

Stronglifts has an app (totally worth it) that even tells you how long to rest for, calculates all your warmup sets, shows you which plates to put on each end of the bar for the weight you need!

And so at least for getting back into the habit, where the less thinking the better, it’s been a clear choice. The gym feels super easy. After a few months I’ll evaluate whether to stay on it or switch back.
