Curious observation about my own communication:
As I become more comfortable being vulnerable, open, courageous as a person, I notice that I’m more likely to include the word ‘I’ in written communication. Even simple things like:
I hope it goes well
vs
Hope it goes well
It’s as though I believed that by skipping the pronoun it wasn’t me / my own emotions that were being laid bare in any way (something I grew up believing wasn’t safe or acceptable to do).
This is totally anecdotal: I’d be wary of extrapolating from this to making inferences about someone else’s openness from the presence/absence of pronouns in their communication—though I also wouldn’t rule it out! I’d be very curious to hear anyone else’s experiences / observations of the same.
