On any given spectrum of behaviour:
|—————————————————————————|
A B
If you believe you’re much too far toward A
And that it’s better to be in the middle
And you identify a strategy for moving closer to B
(As an example, A could be that you’ve identified you’re too miserly with money. B would be excessively splurging money.)
You might then worry “but what if I move so far in that direction that I overshoot the middle and end up at B? B is ((almost) as bad as)/(worse than) A!”
It’s a totally valid concern. But there’s probably a reason you’re all the way at A: it comes very naturally/habitually to you.
B is harder.
As you get closer to the middle, by all means rethink the application of the strategy.
But until then—if you’re a long way from the middle and (like with most things) it’ll take some work to reach the middle—it’s optimal to stop worrying about overshooting and instead go full throttle on your toward-B strategy.
