A thing that’s on my mind a lot and might not be fully coherent yet but let’s take a stab at a first draft
The internet is amazing
But it’s this huge double-edged sword
It gives you so many more people to connect with, and connect with more easily…
But it gets rid of so much of what I love most about interacting in the first place: the energy and experience of being face-to-face, building something together
I’ve never got anywhere close to replicating peak in-person interaction experience on the internet
Looking back, almost every one of my most fulfilling experiences have involved a high degree of in-person interaction
Organising events in person >>> organising events online
And so focusing all my work within the confines of my laptop screen feels recklessly suboptimal
And so I’m very torn
When moving forward with my life
How I optimise for the breadth and ease and flexibility and novelty of interaction that the internet offers
While maximising for the peak experience of in-person interaction
(Or, plan B: how to experience that same peak experience within the confines of remote interaction)
