I’ve noticed an interesting thing happen each time I get somewhere around the 70% mark of a “do 100 things” challenge: I feel reluctant to continue.
I think I do it in other situations where I care about the outcome, too. Launching a new project. Escalating an interaction with someone I like.
Even things like doing the dishes, I often feel hesitation to do the last few items!
It’s because of uncertainty around what will happen when I reach 100. Fear of the unknown. Fear of success.
The chasm seems to last until around the 90% mark, at which point excitement to have it finished overtakes anxiety around what happens at 100%, and it becomes effortless again.
Awareness is the majority of the solution. Now that I’ve noticed it, I can make a focused effort to push through it.
